Steelhead and Salmon Fishing Tips
Steelhead and Salmon Fishing Tips
1) Floats in low clear water conditions work well and also the forgoten but very effective spoons fluttered slowly near the bottom. Also keep your drift gear small, # 2 or 4 hooks with a small cluster of eggs and a puff ball has worked well for me for many years.
2) In the higher more colored water side drift lager gear like cokies or cheaters with eggs or sand shrimp.
3) If you are in a boat stay off the water you want fish in clear water contions this could spook the fish. Not as important when fishing colored water i have caught many fish right under the boat especially on overcast days.
4) A technique i have used effectively on silvers is casting plugs from hotshots to kwickfish makig the plugs go deep and changing up your retrieval speed.
5) When fishing kings from a boat backtrolling drop your plugs as slow as possible, justtheopposite with steelhead try and drop them faster steelhead are usually a little more agressive than kings.
6) When fishing silvers spinners and also some of your favorite steelhead jigs can be very effective also.
7) Color does matter if you are not doing well with one color of lure don't be afraid to try a something different it could make a difference in your catch.
8) Last but not least be patient a bite can turn on at anytime and even if it doesn't enjoy your day the next outing could be the best fishing day of your lifetime.
